Amit Patel

Amit Patel, a native of Fremont, CA, is a dancer, choreographer, teacher, and director living in Los Angeles.

As a first generation Indian American, he strives to fuse his cultures by bringing together different disciplines of dance. With this in mind, he fused his Eastern culture and Western training to bring an unconventional style of dance called “Indian Contemporary.”  Amit is more notable, however, for his rebellious pieces in heels, known as “Bollywood Heels,” which challenge the norms of sexual identity in dance.

His dance training consists of Bollywood Fusion, Hip Hop, Jazz, Ballet, and an extensive training in Contemporary and Modern Dance.

His professional experience includes 10+ years as a dancer, choreographer, and teacher for the Mona Khan Company, as well as a professional dancer, and choreographer for Bliss Dance Company for 6 years. He has also taught internationally, for the Nordics largest Indian Dance Festival in Tampere, Finland; as well as in England, Spain, France, and Greece; teaching both Bollywood Heels & Indian Contemporary.

His work at MKC earned him a place to perform on many national platforms, including: the Indiaspora Inaugural Ball in Washington D.C honoring President Obama’s second Presidential term; the top 48 of America’s Got Talent out of 70,000 acts; the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival; and a performance shoot for the international Emmy award winning show “India” on the Spanish T.V Network, Univision.

His goal as an artist is to create a dance movement that has the potential to unite, inspire, and empower people across cultures.
